Crash Landing on Almas - A Fanfiction by FSF Bailey
Chapter 1:
Joran Bragi and Codiaque Blake VIII sat seated next to each other on the crowded transport. Across from them, Vardis Kree and Samuel Wagner sat, sitting next to each other.
“This trip to Dorumaa is just what we need to take our minds off of the war.” Vardis said across to Blake and Bragi, who seemed to be falling asleep while in transit.
“I agree. Thankfully the Paragon is receiving repairs and the rest of the fleet is becoming fully stocked with supplies and equipment.” Bragi replied, looking up from his daydream.
“I still can’t believe Vrees’s court-martial was fake and he went undercover.” Blake said, still thinking of the recent conflict.
“I just wish it was permanent.” Vardis replied.
“So do I.” Bragi answered back. As Bragi finished, Blake grabbed his sleeve to get his attention. Once Bragi turned, he began pointing to the other end of the transport.
“Isn’t that Vrees?” Blake questioned. At that, the other three turned and saw their recently returned colleague, sitting on the opposite end of the transport, being questioned by some blonde woman. “He has some nerve.”
“Now, now.” Wagner added, “He could have just had the same idea as us.”
“Don’t be so naive Wagner.” Bragi responded, anger in his voice… “He’s here to get some sort of retribution on us for trying to have him court-martialed in the first place, by ruining our vacation.” As Bragi finished, the ship shook lightly as it came out of light speed and the sublight speeds activated.
“At least we’re almost there so we won’t have to see him after this.” Blake added in. As they looked down out of the window at the planet below. “This is Almas. Dorumaa is a moon of the planet which was terraformed into a resort planet.”
“Why Blake, you are so wise. I didn’t know you had it in you.” Vardis replied back, giggling as she finished.
“Well, I was educated quite thoroughly,” Blake replied back, “Plus I always wanted to go here.”
“Well, would you look at that?” Bragi said, pointing at the horizon on the surface. “There’s actually light coming up from the planet.” Bragi said questioning.
“Oh yeah!” Wagner said, noticing the light.
“I wonder what’s causing that.” Vardis said questioning. Before they knew what was happening, some sort of lightning jumped from the planet to the transport, engulfing it in sparks. “What’s happening!?” Vardis yelled.
“I don’t know!” Bragi yelled back. Before they knew it, the transport was smoking and began rapidly descending toward the surface. Bragi could’ve sword he heard yelling coming from the cockpit. Upon hearing that, he jumped from his seat and ran to the cockpit, with the others quickly following. Entering, he saw a single lone pilot, who seemed young and inexperienced. “What happened?” Bragi inquired
“I don’t know. We were just cruising along, in orbit of Almas and heading to the resort. Suddenly, some sort of electricity came out of no where and engulfed the ship! Now the engines aren’t working and half the systems have failed.” The young pilot inquired?
“Don’t know what to do?” Bragi yelled
“Not really. I haven’t been trained for this.” The pilot yelled back.
“Then get up. Wagner! Get in the main seat. I will get in the copilot seat.” Bragi commanded. At that, the young pilot hopped from the seat and ran to the back of the cockpit, taking a seat in the rear. Wagner quickly hopped in the seat with Bragi assuming the copilot seat.
“Shouldn’t you be piloting sir, with me assisting?” Wagner inquired.
“No, you’re the one that’s still certified. Remember? Don’t worry, Sam, you just got plenty of experience and I am here to help.” Bragi reassured.
“What should we do?” Vardis inquired.
“Get to your seats and order everyone to buckle up. We’re going to have a rough landing.” Bragi answered back. At that, Blake grabbed Vardis and pulled her back to there seat as Wagner fought to maintain the controls.
“Everyone buckle yourselves in!” Vardis yelled herself and Blake following her advice as she yelled it.
“She’s not responding!” Wagner yelled, worried.
“I am working on extending the flaps. Hold on!” Bragi yelled, fighting with the buttons on the console…
“I have slowed the descent a bit! Can you level her off?” Wagner questioned
“On it.” Bragi yelled back, looking up at the rapidly approaching plains. “Brace yourself!” Bragi yelled, buckling himself in. The young pilot sat behind them watching, struggling to buckle his seat belt and unable to do so due to his trembling hands. Wagner snapped his buckle closed, and fought more to get the nose up before they hit. Seconds later, the front of the ship smashed into the surface of the plains, causing momentum to throw everything not attached forwards. The young pilot was flung from his seat, forward, hitting the cockpit glass between Wagner and Bragi, smashing his head and cracking the glass in the process. Less than a second later, the rear hit the surface with a loud thud. The transport began gliding across the plains at a rapid speed, turning sideways as it slid. Then the transport came across a boulder, protruding from the surface of the plains. The transport hit it while still at a high velocity, the boulder causing the transport to stop abruptly. As it hit, the hull of the transport ripped and tore on the boulder, causing it to collapse into itself. As Vardis looked backwards, she saw several seats thrown up by the collapsing wall, smashing the passengers strapped in there, and sending others soaring across the cabin. In the shaking, Sam’s right arm smashed into the console next to him. He grasped his right forearm in pain. Bragi felt his seat break free from its bracings as it broke free and sent him tumbling sideways to the deck, his head hitting as he fell. Almost as abruptly as it had started, the crash ended.
